Pitching Mechanics

My belief is to use drills that focus on pitching patterns. Players learn to use their lower half to load for the pitch, to stay strong with their "front side".  I want to push them but not overwhelm them.

In a workout the player and I spend time learning how to pitch to spots: low/away, high/away, high/inside, and low/inside. We discuss what a "pitcher strike" is and why we don't pitch to the middle of the plate.

The final part of the pitching mechanics is the mental game.  Pitching is about proper body language and composure.  I tell them "If you fail, fail fast and move on!" pitching is about working on the things you can control.
